Windows 7 Activation Key
I am on a genuine version of Windows 7. Today I received a very official looking pop-up message that my copy of Windows 7 wasn't genuine and I needed to supply the product activation key. I saw a screenshot on line that confirmed this was a hoax.
I have tried a Restore but it hasn't fixed the problem. I have tried scans with Windows Defender and a commercial product and neither detected an issue.

Desktop screen background has turned black with a message in bottom RHS that copy of Windows is not genuine, Build 7601. Computer status doesn't reveal the genuine nature of the Windows 7 I would rather not reinstall Windows 7 as I am concerned that I will have to reinstall various passwords for Wifi and components etc. I have seen some solutions online but don't know if they are from genuine sources.
One suggests supplying various codes into the hoax request. Others suggest cmd or.exe solutions.

Thanks for the effort Bill. However, not sure why you have put the exclamation marks about the licence use type. Not exactly obvious.
Not sure what difference it makes to my situation. I asked where to find the screen to enter the product key info, ie I had it. Handy links though, and gnarly changing graphics I ended up calling Microsoft as getting late in my part of the world. They require the Activation Screen to be up, but I hadn't found it. Operator advised me to use Windows-R and then type slui_4 (That's space not _ character). We then tried slui_3 which produced the screen.
Typed in code, which confirmed verified. (Not exactly intuitive, access through Start-Computer or Control Panel and options from there would be better). Eventually the 'not genuine' message disappeared although the desktop stayed black (which I have fixed). Apparently nothing further required.
